Register Nurse (RN) - Outpatient

Ideal Candidate Criteria

Possession of a current non-restricted Registered Nurse License from the State of Arizona and one year experience in a behavioral health or related human service setting. Must be available for some travel.

Primary Function

Participates in the on-going treatment of clients including medication supervision, health education, assessment, case management, and provision of therapeutic services; provides staff orientation and training; provide medication administration; and participates in the planning, development and implementation of services.  Supervises other professional and paraprofessional staff team members in the provision of care and services

Job Duties

  • Complete Seclusion and Restraints Training prior to direct client care.
  • Become CPI, CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Ensures strict confidentiality and protection of client rights.
  • Presents a professional image to clients and the community.
  • Provides cultural competent client care.
  • Accurately transcribe prescription orders.
  • Accurately fills and/or supervises the filling of client medication boxes.
  • Educates clients and families regarding medication timeliness and effects and side effects.
  • Assess and monitor the effects and side effects of medication(s) the client is taking or not taking.
  • Accurately report signs and symptoms of the client’s behavioral health issues as related to the medications to the prescriber.
  • Manage and maintain a secure and orderly locked area for holding client’s medications and sample drugs.
  • Interview client taking medication and behavioral health history including current and past medications, hospitalizations and report accurately to the prescriber.
  • Provide education regarding medical health issues and safety to client.
  • Follow policies and procedures and standards for documentation.
  • Maintain an orderly inventory of medications including samples.
  • Call prescriptions to the pharmacy on client’s behalf.
  • Serve as a member of the CFT/ART as requested.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and complete a minimum of 24 hours of in-service training within a year.
  • May provide as appropriate case management and crisis services.
  • Assists in orientation and training of new staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current non-restricted Registered Nurse License from the State of Arizona and one year experience in a behavioral health or related human service setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Use a PC, computer terminal and/or telephone up to five hours a day
  • Occasional reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling or crouching
  • Frequent standing or moving throughout facility
  • Infrequent moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 pounds)
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
